The Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School has been wonderful so far

I once joked with @RollOnFriday that doing the Legal Practice Course was like doing 80 GCSEs simultaneously.

In fact, I thought the same yesterday as I was coming to the end of my three assessments for litigation, business law and practice, and property law and practice.

I study at BPP Law School, having successfully obtained a Masters in international commercial law with commendation from the College of Law. I have found the LPC entirely complementary, but covering very different subject material. I would say that the last few months have been the highlight of my legal training, though I did very much enjoy the seven foundation subjects in the GDL. The only problem was that I had a 2 month coma and became disabled in the middle of it, due to acute meningitis.

I strongly feel that all students on the LPC should approach the course positively. It goes very fast, and virtually everything gets examined somehow. Make sure that you have done the small group sessions in detail, and even if you attend all of them (like I did, save for one when I wasn’t feeling well), it’s well worth going through the material online again. I can’t under-emphasise the importance of consolidation as you go along, and the previous exam papers give you a clear headsup about what the examiners consider important. The courses surprisingly do make sense when taken as a whole, and now that my exams are over I can see the relative importance of bits of it. In civil litigation, for example, make sure you know foreign jurisdiction, part 36, alternative dispute resolution, disclosure and drafting backwards. In property law, know searches and enquiries, peri-completion steps, drafting, leases drafting and statutes and commercial security of tenure backwards. And finally – in business law practice, know the whole lot backwards!

Enjoy
