New timetable for BPP Legal Awareness Society May – August 2012
These details are currently being finalised by BPP Law School, Holborn. Please confirm date and time on this page before you attend any of our meetings. They last no more than an hour, and are freely available to any past, current or future student of BPP (at any of the sites, and any of the disciplines).

All meetings are held in BPP Law School, 68 Red Lion St., London.
We discuss, with reference to contemporaneous events, the importance and relevance of corporate strategy to the decisions made by companies, and explain how it is necessary to comply with law to create competitive advantage.
As such, this independent BPP club/society is ideal for law students doing their GDL, LPC or LLM, wishing to be considered by a City firm for a training contract, where teamwork and commercial awareness are key competences.

Timetables for terms 4 and 5 of the BPP Legal Awareness Society (meetings now at Holborn)
The BPP Legal Awareness Society is a well-established and popular Society within BPP.
This timetable has been developed in line with the FT timetable at BPP Holborn which has been published on the VLE Blackboard. The BPP Legal Awareness Society is a student-run society for students at BPP to help them understand why and how regulation has an important part to play in a corporate strategy and for building competitive advantage.

As such, it is therefore an informal society for students to develop their interest in commercial awareness, appropriate for the basic professional training of student lawyers at BPP doing their Legal Practice Course as well as Masters level students at BPP studying finance, marketing, accountancy and tax disciplines at BPP University College. Any BPP student is welcome, and strongly encouraged to attend, especially those submitting vacation placement or training contract applications to corporate law firms for 2014 or beyond.
Our programme in this Society, to be held at BPP Holborn for the first time (we held all our meetings in the BPP Business School, St Mary Axe last time), is designed to complement the LPC course at BPP. The Society is entirely independent of BPP teaching, however. Your input into the development of the programme of LegalAware for terms 4 and 5 is much welcomed, and you’re strongly encouraged to involve yourself in the Society’s activities through Twitter.
In addition to the formal sessions below, we will be discussing pervasive issues of setting up and financing a company in English law, directors, shareholders, tax and business accounts and insolvency, as or when they occur.

2 Nov 11 meeting at @BPPBusiness 3 pm – flotations
Our first meeting is this Wednesday 3 pm – 4 pm at the BPP Business School, 2 St Mary Axe, 2 November 2011.
We will be looking at the effort involved in doing a flotation successfully in the City, some interesting recent IPOs and rights issues, and how the flotation fits into a business’ corporate strategy. The meeting will therefore be of particular interest to law students with an interest in commercial issues, as well as finance and accountancy students. It will especially be of interest to BPP MBA students of the compulsory module in managerial decision-making, and of the special elective module in private equity and venture capital.

Official list of meetings this term by the BPP Legal Awareness Society in the City
The meetings of the BPP Legal Awareness Society, run by students of BPP at the BPP Business School, will take place as follows. All student members of BPP, particularly those in finance, business, marketing, accountancy and law, are most welcome. The BPP Legal Awareness Society wishes to promote commonalities within these professional disciplines. In particular, this Society emphasises the importance of law and regulation to businesses, and an understanding of business strategy to businesses.
