On 1 June 2007, I was admitted to the Royal Free NHS Hampstead with a working diagnosis of acute meningitis. I had an epileptic seizure, and on emergency intubation I experienced an asystolic cardiac arrest. Thereafter, I was managed on the Royal Free ITU for six weeks unconscious, treated with an arterial line and central line. I have thereafter been in total recovery from alcohol, and I have completed my MBA, Bachelor of Law and Master of Law. Whilst I have been coping with a new diagnosis of physical disability, I am happy, although I have never been in regular salaried employment for five years. I will be taking my mum to my MBA graduation on November 21st 2012, a degree conferred by the Academic Board of BPP Business School earlier this year. I feel that standing tall again is something I must do in recovery, which is why I love this song. This, for me, is an achievement as I had to learn how to walk again, from a wheelchair via a three-wheeler (‘rollator’).
Lyrics:
This is the end
Hold your breath and count to ten
Feel the earth move and then
Hear my heart burst again
For this is the end
I’ve drowned and dreamed this moment
So overdue, I owe them
Swept away, I’m stolen
Let the sky fall, when it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall, when it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At skyfall
Skyfall is where we start
A thousand miles and poles apart
When worlds collide, and days are dark
You may have my number, you can take my name
But you’ll never have my heart
Let the sky fall, when it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall, when it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At skyfall
Where you go I go,
What you see I see
I know I’ll never be me, without the security
Of your loving arms
Keeping me from harm
Put your hand in my hand
And we’ll stand
Let the sky fall, when it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall, when it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At skyfall
Let the sky fall
We will stand tall
At skyfall
